restless & rainy

Inside as a silent observer, I watch the rain fall straight down. slowly, then all at once, then slowly again. straight down.

the ivory halo dogwood quivers. the droplets slide from her leafs.

I grew up in a desert, and I moved to a still-arid climate, so rain is always a welcome gift from the sky at just about any time, but it’s this 9am deluge that really does it for me.

everything has a nice rinse before the day gets going.

Open the window to petrichor and the sound of water flowing in the street and the sound of the moss in the front yard saying “ahhhh thank you!”

I want to be outside but it’s cozy watching through the glass. I want to rinse off the past and shimmer like the dogwoods when the sun shines again this afternoon. A little newness, a chance to perk up again.

I did not know it when we moved to the foothills this Spring, but we moved to a particularly rainy area. It can be pouring here and five minutes north or east, dry still. That’s been a nice surprise for me and for the tomato plants which are fecund and always grateful for an extra soak.

I’ve been very happy lately. Working very hard and considering the future.
There is always change and newness. There will always be more.
