Blog Post 11.
The Full Moon. Last night, we were treated to another full moon. Yes, that also means it is once again the best time of the year: Scorpio Season. I was running my usual route- between the Atlantic shore and Cádiz’s botanic garden- when I saw the bright and full face of our nearest cosmic neighbor.
One of my first nights in Spain was a full moon: the Sturgeon Moon on August 26th. Because of that, the moon’s cycle has almost perfectly marked my time in Spain as it passes. The image on this post was taken of the Harvest Moon on September 25th. Last night’s Hunter’s Moon marked the completion of my second full lunar cycle since leaving the US. I’m not going to get into another homily about the passage of time or its cyclical nature or anything like that. You’re welcome.
I’ll simply say that I will see one more luna llena in Cádiz. November 23rd is the Beaver Moon. Then my first night back home, back to all things familiar, on December 22nd, the moon will show her full face to us again: the Cold Moon. At this point, two moon cycles in and (just under) two moon cycles to go, I am both apprehensive to leave this place behind and keen to return to the places and people I call home.
I think it’s interesting that we mark the cycle of the moon based on how we perceive it from over here. If you think about it, the moon is always full. She’s always all there.
